The Unorthodox Epicure — Ringing in 2016 with roses and Peach Bellinis

My 2016 will begin in sunny California. Virtually, of course.

Ally Phillips from Ally’s Kitchen invited a few of us to participate in the first Food Blogger Blast as part of the 2016 Tournament of Roses Parade, and I was happy to serve up Peach Bellinis for the celebration.

The big party is part of Ally’s two-day live cooking demonstration, during which she’ll be whipping up delicious recipes using products from Dole Packaged Foods at Live on Green, a free event in Pasadena sponsored in part by Dole. It all leads up to the legendary Tournament of Roses Parade, where Dole’s float Soaring Over Paradise explores the world’s rain forests. The float features four waterfalls, a zip line that travels through the rain forest canopy and a flock of Macaws that appear to take flight over the floral gardens.

Meanwhile, if you end up with sun envy while watching the big parade, consider whipping up a quick batch of these Peach Bellinis. It’s a Dole recipe and it tastes just like summer.

One of Italy's most popular cocktails, made easy with DOLE® Fresh Frozen Peach Slices.
Recipe type: Drink
Serves: 1-2
  • 3 oz — DOLE® Fresh Frozen Peach Slices, partially thawed
  • ¾ oz — Peach schnapps
  • ½ cup — Champagne
  • 1 oz — Fresh sour (1 TB each - Lemon juice & simple syrup)
  • ½ oz — Grenadine syrup
  • ½ oz — Simple syrup
  • ¾ cup — Ice cubes
  1. Combine peaches, schnapps, Champagne, fresh sour, grenadine, simple syrup and ice in blender container.
  2. Cover; blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into glass.
  4. Garnish with frozen peach slice.

    When I see my beloved Washington Huskies playing in the Rose Bowl again, I will drink a gallon of these things to celebrate. It must be fun to be invited to these kinds of events. Very cool!

  3. Oh my, those look so tasty! Ally is so awesome and so are you Adam! Both of you rock with the food styling — me not so much. I have a very impatient family waiting to eat and can’t pre-make my foods in the daytime for natural light and such due to the fact that I freakin’ work more than full-time. But that is the life of a part-time foodie blogger! Maybe I should revamp my format and just take one single photo like you do. (However I have friends who would really miss the step by step photos.) I guess I make do and hope people appreciate. And I do appreciate both yours and Ally’s blogs. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Oops sorry for the ramble! :D

      You are too kind, Kathryn. I think we all have different styles and mine is pretty much straightforward (with the food photos and instructions). The reason I don’t have step-by-step is because my 15 followers are the smartest people on the planet. Well, there’s also the laziness thing. Happy 2016 to you and yours!

  5. Adam, your interpretation (mighty ‘purdily’ pictured via your one photo, lol) got my attention. Soooo “fresh” looking — and no doubt tasting!
